Platinion Senior IT Architect, Amsterdam
At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Simon goes deep to understand challenges.
I see BCG and BCG Platinion as a network of entrepreneurs. Everyone is incredibly talented and passionate about shaping their own future. It’s an exciting place to be, and I’m constantly impressed by the diversity and depth of the work that we do.
I am a senior IT architect at BCG Platinion. I specialize in emerging technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence. I love all things technology and have found BCG Platinion to be the perfect place to cultivate my interests. There are three things I particularly like about working for BCG Platinion. First, I work with highly skilled and motivated colleagues. Second, my work is creative, innovative, and interesting. And third, we make a significant and lasting impact for our clients.
At BCG Platinion, we help our clients drive value and impact from technology. We provide the guidance needed to execute large-scale transformations and to draw on deep IT expertise to navigate the technology jungle. It is an incredibly exciting place to work, where I can grow both personally and professionally.
Simon holds a master’s degree in engineering, mathematics, and computational science from Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden. Before joining BCG Platinion, Simon worked as an artificial intelligence consultant for a larger consulting company.
Q: Can you tell us how digital transformation has influenced your career?
A: I grew up with a world going through its digital transformation, and I have always lived on the forefront of it. In my work, I have helped businesses become increasingly digital by introducing technology solutions to replace legacy processes and systems.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: There is a strong culture of mentorship at BCG and BCG Platinion. You are given significant responsibility but also the tools to succeed. I’m particularly happy with the mentorship and with the expertise that our managing directors and senior colleagues share with me.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: I make sure to set aside time to care for myself and to spend quality time with the ones close to me. Also, at BCG, you always have a discussion about personal objectives when you start on a new case with a client. These objectives are monitored by a facilitator throughout the case to ensure that the workload is sustainable.
Q: What are you most curious about?
A: Right now, I’m very curious about blockchain technology and the impact it will have going forward. We are in a critical moment for blockchain, as implementations are moving into production. It will be very exciting to see the outcomes.
Q: Can you give an example of a time where your team really came together in a big way? Put another way, what's the best team experience you've had?
A: I think every case really binds people together. There is something special about being in the trenches with a tight-knit team, all working toward a common goal. During my last case, we had a mixed BCG and BCG Platinion team, and we managed to create a full-fledged business and IT strategy together in a short time. It was a great experience, and we grew together as a team.
