At BCG, Seekers go deep into the challenging issues our clients face. Their curiosity empowers our teams to facilitate change and add value to society. Stephen finds clarity in a complex world.
BCG gives you the chance to learn so much about yourself by giving you the opportunity to work with different people, in different industries, solving different problems.
I joined BCG after working in local government. Although in many ways I was doing similar work—trying to solve complex, multifaceted problems—I have found the pace and intellectual rigor of working at BCG incredibly rewarding.
I've worked across a wide range of sectors, including banking, retail, and manufacturing—but I now specialize in health care. I particularly like working in this sector because it gives me an opportunity to use the skills and knowledge of BCG to help clients make a real difference in people's lives across the world.
Stephen joined the London office in 2012. He previously worked as the head of strategy and planning in UK Local Government. Prior to this, he completed a master’s in public management at Warwick University and a master’s in criminology at the University of Cambridge.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: The sheer diversity of what we do is amazing—as is the range of expert knowledge we have. Being able to pick up the phone and talk to a world expert in a field you previously knew very little about is something you can only do in a company like BCG.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: No two days are the same, so there is no typical day. However, each day usually involves a mix of working with the case team to think through how we're solving problems, doing some individual analytical work, and working with clients—either in meetings, workshops, or calls—to make sure we understand the problem and collaborate to get to the right solution.
Q: Why did you choose to work at BCG?
A: For someone interested in solving problems, having the opportunity to work across sectors, with brilliant, talented people, on issues that really matter to clients was really an opportunity I couldn't turn down.
