At BCG, Explorers are unafraid to embark on new journeys. They try new solutions to untangle complex problems and drive transformational change. Witi seeks a new perspective.
The best part of working at BCG is the ability to work on a wide range of industries and problems regardless of your background. Your curiosity will allow you to chart your own course at BCG.
After receiving my PhD in engineering, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do as the next step in my career, but I knew that I didn't want to go into academia. I was looking to explore various industries, and that's one of the main reasons I came to BCG.
Since I've joined BCG, I have worked on a wide variety of cases spanning seven different industries and many functions. The exposure to a wide range of challenging problems and senior clients has made my experience at BCG very interesting and satisfying. The learning never stops at BCG.
Witi received his PhD from Stanford University in management science and engineering, and his MS in industrial engineering and BS in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M University.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: BCG has a culture in which people go out of their way to help you grow and succeed even if they are not on the same project. This can be anything from bouncing different ideas in the office off another consultant to calling a senior partner in another office to discuss the client's problem. The culture of selflessness, in addition to the numerous trainings, has provided a great platform for me to grow and succeed at BCG.
Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?
A: I think BCGers are naturally curious people who enjoy solving complex problems and are not afraid to challenge the status quo. BCGers like to go deep to understand challenges and connect the dots to see the bigger picture. We strive to help each other grow and succeed.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance at BCG?
A: First, I clearly communicate with my team that maintaining a good work-life balance is very important to the success of our team. I start every new case by aligning with my team on the expectations regarding when we should be done working each day. Once you've done that, the rest is about having open communication among the team on how to better manage your workload. Fortunately, BCG has many tools available to improve your work-life balance that are now embedded in all BCG cases.
