Facilities Manager, Seoul
At BCG, Allies bring a sense of collaboration and excitement to their teams. They create an atmosphere of trust and support in which people can do their best work. Yuseon is unafraid to try new things.
BCG always creates a positive work environment and is devoted to caring for its people.
When I was a senior in college, I worked at BCG in Seoul as a research assistant for two months. I had never seen such a great place. Everyone at BCG was very unique but had one thing in common: they were all committed to each other and the values that BCG provided. I was so impressed by BCG Seoul as a student and was later lucky enough to become an intern at the firm and go on to work here full-time after graduation.
I worked as a receptionist in office for ten years, and today I am working as office facilities manager. The change of my role was a turning point in my BCG life. I have good relationships with the other functions and we proactively support each other. Our team and various committees have successfully carried out every outing, year-end party, and meeting held in the Seoul office. I have also worked with Japanese colleagues for NEA system outings in Japan. These challenging yet exciting experiences have given me new opportunities to learn.
Yuseon graduated from Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea as a French language and literature major. She has lived up to her name at BCG in Seoul. Yuseon (侑宣) is derived from a Chinese word meaning “of suggestion and encouragement to people.”
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: The people around me are the reason I have been enjoying working here for more than 15 years. My team (the office facilities team) is gifted in many ways. We help and understand each other to fully use our talent. Although they all have different work styles, they know their own responsibilities and they share when asked to perform certain tasks. My husband's support has also been crucial. He has been helping me raise our children, and he also gives me inspirational ideas and feedback.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: I provide office administrative services and general HR support. As an office facilitator, I am responsible for coordinating seat space planning, the repair and maintenance of office equipment, canteen/office physical environment and meal maintenance, preparation for various local office supplies including global corporate stationery, company-sponsored documents, emergency plan management, office-wide events (outings and the year-end party), and employee activity coordination. As part of my HR work, I work on the employee benefit program and I provide building service requests and perform other administrative tasks. I also assist the office coordinator by doing various operational works. In addition, I supervise the receptionist and the facilities coordinator, and provide mobility support to facilitate new hire orientation to new staff.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: I was elected as “most popular BST [business services team] member” at BCG. I am very proud of this because I think of it as being given to a person who is regarded as “my favorite BCGer.”
