BCG Launches First 100% Digital Immersion Center in Paris

Boston Consulting Group Opens First-of-Its-Kind Physical Space Dedicated to Digital Transformation, with Other Center Openings Planned for Silicon Valley, New York, Asia, and Germany

PARIS—Digital transformation accounts for close to 40% of BCG’s business activity. To strengthen these services, the firm has developed Immersion Centers, spaces designed to focus on the digital transformation of companies. The first of these centers has just opened in Paris. Its purpose: to offer business executives an immersive experience of digital transformation. In coming months, BCG will launch additional Immersion Centers in Silicon Valley, New York City, Asia, and Germany.

Often, companies that have placed digital transformation at the core of their strategic agenda find it difficult to make the transformation tangible and comprehensible. BCG has identified several prerequisites to meeting this challenge:

  • Discussing the transformation at the company’s highest levels
  • Strengthening collaboration between a company’s IT department and its business side
  • Maintaining a constant collective spirit of improvement to support the pace of innovation

 At its Immersion Centers, BCG will use its expertise to help companies achieve these prerequisites. Specifically, BCG will offer executives an array of training, facilities, and knowledge transfer:

  • Immersive workshops with BCG experts who bring experience and insight to the challenges that executives face
  • Workspaces where clients’ multidisciplinary teams and BCG experts can collaborate for periods ranging from one to four months, to trigger new methods of working together
  • Events and training sessions throughout the year to demystify the main issues of digital transformation and create a collective spirit of improvement

Using Digital to Create Value for the Whole Company

The purpose of the Immersion Centers isn’t to test or present new technologies, but to create immersive experiences for leaders to help them quickly resolve the unique challenges they face in connection with their company’s digital transformation. More broadly, the centers align with BCG’s goal of making the executive committee the main actor in a digital transformation, and of enabling the committee to successfully roll out digital transformation at scale.

“The tailored immersive experiences we develop for our clients are a concrete way to hand them the keys needed to ensure a successful path to digital transformation in record time,” said Lionel Aré, a senior associate director of BCG’s Paris office, who is in charge of the firm’s global digital offer and Immersion Centers.

“Digital transformation is 10% tech, 20% implementation, and 70% people. With the explosion of technical solutions, every organization has to become an actor in—and not just an observer of—these changes by creating a dynamic that integrates all teams. BCG aims to help clients meet this challenge,” said Gwenhaël Le Boulay, associate senior director in the firm’s Paris office, who oversaw the creation of the Immersion Center there.

“Digital transformation creates a competitive advantage. It also means mastering technology and data. At the Immersion Center, we offer a customized program of practical training for business leaders to help them make the right decisions,” said Vanessa Lyon, associate director in charge of digital and business development at BCG’s Paris office.

“Digital transformation has to be experienced to be understood, but it requires upstream strategic thinking, which is essential to identifying the necessary stages of the rollout. The scripting and gamification of digital challenges that we offer at our Immersion Center can help companies overcome this paradox,” said Laura Ghebali, manager of BCG’s Immersion Center in Paris.

The Immersion Center complements BCG’s other rich digital offerings. France is the firm’s global laboratory on all data and digital topics. Beyond the Immersion Center, the Paris office is the driving force on such topics as industry of the future, with the Innovation Center for Operations; factory 4.0, inaugurated in September 2016 at the Plateau de Saclay, a science and technology center; and artificial intelligence, with BCG Gamma, an AI-dedicated unit with 500 data scientists led by Sylvain Duranton.
