Emily Chai

Since being awarded the 2011 BCG Scholarship, Emily completed her commerce and arts degrees at the University of Auckland. She joined BCG in 2013 and is a senior associate in the Sydney office.

Emily received the BCG Scholarship in 2011, in her fourth year of commerce and arts degrees at the University of Auckland. Winning the scholarship enabled her to travel throughout Africa before joining BCG.

Emily majored in economics, politics, and mathematics and went on to complete honors in economics. Her interest in economics came from involvement at a young age with organizations such as World Vision, where she saw economics as the basis for change in reversing poverty.
At high school, she represented New Zealand at the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2007.

Emily was Auckland President of UN Youth New Zealand in 2010 and has volunteered for not-for-profit organizations such as TradeAid. She also represented the University of Auckland in several international business case competitions.

In her role at BCG, Emily has worked on a wide range of cases, spanning media and telecommunications, the public sector, the social sector, financial services, and manufacturing.

Before joining BCG, Emily held analyst roles with Deloitte, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise, and the New Zealand Treasury.

Emily is grateful for the support and opportunities the scholarship has provided. Some advice for this year's applicants? Share your passions, do prepare a little (the online resources are pretty good), but try to have fun in the process.
