Julie Is a Imaginative Ally

Associate, Toronto

At BCG, Allies bring a sense of collaboration and excitement to their teams. They create an atmosphere of trust and support in which people can do their best work. Julie connects the dots to see the bigger picture.

Right from the start, I was given significant ownership over my work. The level of independence has accelerated my learning to a new level.

In Julie’s Words

Prior to joining BCG as an associate, I worked in power and utilities investment banking. At BCG, I have had the opportunity to support a retail client on a category profitability-improvement initiative and a technology, media, and telecommunications client on a postmerger integration. The environment at BCG is dynamic and fast-paced, and I consistently have opportunities to develop new skills and work with exceptional teams.

I am amazed by the level of investment that the leadership team makes in its people; learning and development are a top priority. Consultants have access to informal feedback on a regular basis, and their managers engineer opportunities for them to help meet development objectives. I am energized by the environment at BCG and the pace at which my learning has accelerated since joining!

Why did you choose to work at BCG?

As I went through the recruiting process, I was able to connect on a personal level with everyone I met. While the team is undoubtedly diverse, we are united by a common curiosity, passion for excellence, interest in people, and desire to help our clients thrive. I also chose BCG because of its commitment to helping employees have sustainable careers. There is a significant internal focus on building effective teams. We have open discussions about working norms and priorities, progress, and individual needs. I really value the attention that is given to creating a workplace that can work for everyone.

What’s your home office environment like?

There is a great sense of camaraderie in the Toronto office. It has a very easy-going, family-oriented vibe, and the people are energetic, compassionate, and quirky. It is truly a close-knit community, and there are lots of opportunities to spend time with colleagues outside of regular case work. My teammates are not only colleagues but friends, too, which makes BCG that much more fun. I feel very fortunate to work with such great people; the environment here has really enabled me to grow.

What are you excited about at BCG and beyond? What are your long-term career goals?

I love that virtually anything is possible here. If you have a particular passion or goal, people will surround you with support and help make that goal a reality. At this stage of my career, I’m excited about working on new, high-impact cases with exceptional leaders. Thinking more long term, I hope to pursue an MBA and would love to do case work in either Europe or Australia.
