BCG formally started operations in India in 1995, opening its offices after nearly a decade of work in the country. Today, we are located at Hyatt Regency in Chennai, Nariman Point in Mumbai, and DLF Cybercity in Gurgaon. Our Chennai office allows us to meet the needs of clients in South India, serving primarily the private sector.
Located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, Chennai (formerly known as Madras) is one of South India's primary commercial, cultural, and educational centers. Approximately 4.6 million people live in the city, making it India’s sixth-most populous. According to the Confederation of Indian Industry, Chennai's economy is expected to grow to $100 billion—2.5 times its present size—by the year 2025.
The city's economy has a broad industrial base in the automobile, computer, technology, hardware manufacturing, financial services, and health care industries. Many software and software services companies have development centers in Chennai, and a number of software companies have made Chennai their largest base. Medical tourism is also an important part of Chennai's economy, with several prominent health care providers located in the city.
BCG in Chennai teams have collaborated closely with clients in the auto, industrial goods, consumer and retail, infrastructure, and engineering, procurement, and construction industries—serving Indian companies as well as multinationals.
The office is situated in a heritage five-star hotel. We are a small group and have been able to maintain a home-away-from-home environment in the office. BCGers here work hard to understand the business opportunities and challenges that this vibrant and fast-growing city presents.
