At BCG, Allies bring a sense of collaboration and excitement to their teams. They create an atmosphere of trust and support in which people can do their best work. Mazen challenges the status quo.
Since joining, I have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges and development my job provides on a daily basis. This has included everything from building economic forecasts right through to partnering with the head of a billion-dollar business unit to design a strategy team workshop.
My background is in economics and international politics. I was attracted to BCG because of the nature of the work. At BCG, we get to tackle challenging problems for diverse clients and tailor unique solutions for them. The creative environment that enables us to solve problems for our clients is inspiring and comes from working with people from such diverse backgrounds. I’ve worked with former doctors, lawyers, engineers, and astrophysicists, and each person has brought a richness of insight to the client work.
I’m passionate about social impact work, and BCG has provided me with the opportunity to be involved in supporting some of our core social impact partners, such as LADDER, the Oaktree Foundation, and Teach for Australia. I can genuinely say that at BCG we live our values; they are not simply words.
Mazen holds a bachelor of arts degree in economics and international relations from University of Melbourne.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I was attracted by the nature of BCG’s work and the how we facilitate change with our clients. We often tackle challenging problems for which there is no off-the-shelf answer, so we create teams of individuals with extremely diverse backgrounds. This inspires creativity and ensures that we challenge assumptions so as to add value by thinking outside the box.
Q: What is something that has surprised you about working at BCG?
A: I’m surprised by how much I have learned about myself. I’ve learned a lot about my working style, my strengths and weaknesses, my personal habits, and the way I think through things. You learn about this by coming in contact with a group of incredibly impressive people who are very successful but do things differently from you. Everyone has their own style, and you learn from them and in the process you learn about yourself.
Q: What inspires you about BCG?
A: I have been heavily involved with BCG's social impact work, supporting projects for a number of our social impact partners. I have also directed our Emerging Leaders Program. Social impact sits at the core of our business; it enshrines one of our nine core values, something that was important to me. Through the work I’ve been involved in and the opportunities given to me, I can genuinely say that at BCG we live our values, and they are more than some words on an “about us” webpage.
