Yoichiro Hirai rejoined Boston Consulting Group in 2012, having previously worked at the firm from 2000. Prior to rejoining BCG, Yoichiro was the president and CEO of Zappallas and COO of Oricon, both major digital service/entertainment companies in Japan. Over the course of his career, Yoichiro has continued to be engaged in new business development, and has led launches of numerous new businesses leveraging digital technology.

He led the establishment of the BCG Digital Tokyo Center (now Tokyo BCG X) in April 2016 and served as a head of Japan. Since 2021, he has served as its Head of Asia Pacific, where he was responsible for creating and launching new business ideas and founding and leading corporate venturing programs for large companies. He currently leads BCG X in Northeast Asia region.

Yoichiro is a core member of BCG’s Corporate Finance & Strategy practice and is a topic leader of corporate venturing, an innovation generating program for large companies. He is also a core member of the firm’s Consumer and Technology, Media & Telecommunications practices. His project experiences include generating in-house innovation, open innovation including M&A and business development.

Prior to joining BCG, Yoichiro worked at Walt Disney International and Japan and at Mitsubishi Corporation.
