Senior Associate, Bogotá
At BCG, Visionaries navigate complexity with ease. They use their insight and intuition to identify the solutions that will create lasting impact. Andres connects the dots to see the bigger picture.
BCG will do anything to attract and nurture the best talent available; as a result, it is always challenging—and rewarding—to work with your peers.
I was instantly engaged with BCG the moment I talked to the people of the Bogotá office in one of their campus visits. I had just talked with a group of the most extraordinary people I had ever met: young professionals with successful careers facing complex challenges on a daily basis and therefore having a constantly steep learning curve.
As an engineer with a never-ending inquisitiveness of the business world, and without any concrete idea of what I wanted a job in, I found BCG to be the place for me to be. I've had the opportunity to experience firsthand what it requires to merge two companies, to create a cultural transformation plan for a multi-Latin corporation, and to review the strategy of a multibillion-dollar player. Whether it was in the telecommunications, insurance, or airlines industries, I have enjoyed many experiences that I could not have easily had access to in a "normal" job.
Andrés is an industrial engineer with magna cum laude honors from the Universidad de los Andes. Prior to BCG, Andrés worked as a financial analyst for a real estate investment firm.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I value two things about my job the most. First, I'm always learning, whether it is from a new industry or a new problem, or from my colleagues and the client. Second, the work is so varied. No two days are the same. It is very difficult to get bored, since you will never fall into an operative routine.
Q: What international experiences at BCG have been the most interesting for you?
A: In my two years in BCG, I've had the opportunity to work on projects in a total of nine countries. The experience I've gained in these travels is unquantifiable. Whether it was in the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Paraguay, or Colombia, the most interesting part of all is that the BCG way of working permeates all cultures and we are always able to create value for our clients.
Q: What are you most curious about?
A: Understanding how businesses work and how to be able to create value on a daily basis. But I am even more curious about how information and knowledge is transformed into concrete actions that can change the path of a person, organization, or even the world.
