Risk Manager, Paris
What I care about most is building strong relationships with people. This means I can have much more impact when I am at the client, and I can continue that collaborative dialogue after I leave.
Born and raised in Poland, I completed my master’s studies abroad, taking part in Erasmus and other international exchange programs.
I started my carrier as an IT auditor in the financial services industry in the US and Germany. As much as I enjoyed working in the information technology field, I was also interested in many different topics and was looking to broaden my knowledge of the business world. BCG offered a tremendous opportunity to broaden my knowledge and international experience.
Joining the global risk management team exposed me to other business functions, new enterprise risks and many challenging assignments. As an enterprise risk professional I discovered new areas of interests such as the creation of a more risk-focused culture in the organization.
Working at BCG is a true cultural experience for me as well. I began my career in the Munich office and then moved to the Paris office. In my role, I have had the opportunity to travel for different work assignments to more than 30 countries and to undertake projects with my colleagues and clients with different backgrounds. My international experience has broadened my perspective and taught me that embracing differences is a key to connecting with people.
Ewa graduated with a master's degree in finance and management from Warsaw University in Poland and has international experience as an exchange student at the University of Granada in Spain. Ewa also holds an MBA from the Coggin College of Business at the University of North Florida. Ewa is a certified information systems auditor (CISA) and a certified internal auditor (CIA).
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: For me, it's the vast diversity of topics I work on. No two days are the same. One day I could be working on the rollout of the customized roadmap program to the client teams and the next day facilitating a workshop on risk and compliance with managers.
My role encompasses enterprisewide risks, and I need to be well versed and have an interest in many areas, ranging from business continuity and emergency management to people and legal risks. The breadth of challenges available at my current post is endless.
Q: What is a typical day like for you?
A: First thing in the morning, I grab a fresh cup of coffee and I review the breaking news that could impact BCG or any company operating in the professional services industry. Then I check my e-mails to see if there's anything urgent to deal with. My colleagues and I like to send each other interesting articles on the latest developments in risk and compliance, so I also read through those to keep myself well informed.
My department is geographically spread out. A typical day usually includes a few video calls with my colleagues or clients in other countries. The rest of the day, I may work on the risk review program or provide advice on risk-related issues.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: I am a strong people developer; being able to coach and mentor is something I truly enjoy. BCG and my management team empowered me to pursue my aspiration.
I remember a new hire I worked with who was struggling a little in the beginning. After many sessions of coaching from me and others, she has grown into an independent and bright individual. Inspiring and motivating others is something I find exceptionally rewarding to be a part of; after all, it helps me to grow and develop my managerial skills as well.
