BCG Digital Ventures Assurance Engineer, Seattle
At BCG, Storytellers synthesize complex information and ideas. They believe in bringing the whole team together to get a broader perspective. Corey goes deep to understand challenges.
BCG Digital Ventures is like a startup where you can be lean and agile and take well-informed risks, because you are backed by a deep pool of knowledge and support from around the globe.
All of my life, I have had an innate curiosity about how things work, coupled with an inherent need to unpack the how and why of them so as to apply that knowledge to future experiences. These traits naturally led me to the world of software and to the myriad of opportunities, complexities, and challenges that accompany it. BCG Digital Ventures is a rapid innovation and dynamic software delivery environment that cuts across industries, allowing me to leverage my experience while still challenging me.
I have come to understand that transforming an idea into a successful digital product requires a multifaceted approach to quality and an understanding that software has users at different intersections of the product. I’m the user viewing your app on the phone; I’m your operations person maintaining your servers and service; I’m your customer support specialist; I’m the developer consuming your API set; I’m the guy who can tell you how one part of your system interacts with another part or how it will react to your proposed changes; I’m the person viewing the monthly cost of maintaining your infrastructure. I am all these people and more, and I am here to ensure the best outcome for each.
This is what is amazing about BCGDV. The company allows me to work across disciplines, take on new challenges, and exercise my passion for helping the team produce the best product we can for the client. BCGDV also recognizes that we live in a dynamic world and that what worked last year may not work this year. This enables me to constantly analyze, refine the approach, and adapt to what is most efficient and correct for each project.
Corey has worked in the software quality assurance field since 1999 on products ranging from Xbox to e-commerce platforms. He thrives on team collaboration and digging into the nuts and bolts of things, and is a do-it-yourselfer, a husband, and a father.
I appreciate the freedom of not being boxed into a perceived role. I have the ability to redefine the quality assurance role for the future and lend my experience at many levels.
By demonstrating what I know to be true of the quality assurance role, and by being the conduit connecting all aspects of the product and thus having the broadest and often deepest knowledge about the product, resulting in better efficiency and quality.
What the long-term effects of social media will be on society. Is it doing more harm than good as we redefine social interaction and the concept of “friend”?
Life and situations are cyclical to some degree. Being a great mentor is about teasing out the relevant knowledge you possess; demonstrating how to apply it; and then listening, learning, and applying new knowledge learned from your protégé.
That people could easily learn how fragile, complex, and interconnected everything on the planet is and how all actions, big or small, affect us as a whole. I hope that perhaps people can look beyond their immediate surroundings and understand that we are all in this together.
