Managing Director & Senior Partner, Zurich
At BCG, Seekers go deep into the challenging issues our clients face. Their curiosity empowers our teams to facilitate change and add value to society. Rüdiger has the courage to take action.
The diverse group of brilliant people at BCG is truly humbling.
At the time I joined BCG in 1999, my background was rather uncommon as I had already worked six years for a major oil company. Such a background is not uncommon anymore. My first project took me to the telecommunications sector, where I have since spent a large share of my time working. I have worked on topics from strategy, growth, cost reduction, go-to-market, and IT/networks to mergers and acquisitions as well as organization.
The reason I joined BCG is the reason that keeps me at BCG to this day: inspiration. I am inspired as much by the diverse group of people BCG hires as I am by the way we do our work, challenging conventional wisdom wherever possible.
Rüdiger holds a master’s and a PhD in business administration from St. Gallen University.
Q: What’s the biggest impact you have had with your work?
A: In our work on auctions for mobile frequencies, there are typically hundreds of millions, if not billions, of US dollars at stake. That really focuses your mind.
Q: How do you maintain a sustainable career balance?
A: There are two components to make it work. First, it is about knowing which aspects of life outside BCG are truly important to me. And second, I always remember that generating client impact is the ultimate objective of my work – not the analysis per se.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: That I am never finished learning.
