Senior Researcher, Boston
At BCG, Challengers go against expected thinking and inspire their teams to be truly innovative. Raluca is unafraid to try new things.
I believe that the work of a researcher resembles that of a detective: you don’t give up until the case is solved.
I have been working in the field of market research for nearly ten years. Over the course of my career, I have investigated topics in various industries, most recently focusing on capital markets and financial institutions. I have been privileged to work in my native country of Romania as well as in the US, gaining broad experience in both US and European markets. I like to think of myself as a global citizen, having developed a network of international colleagues and being fluent in English, Romanian, and German and proficient in Spanish.
In 2012, I had the opportunity to relocate to Boston to help open BCG’s first Data and Research Services office. I eagerly accepted, as it represented an exciting new challenge and growth opportunity. While at BCG, I have been able to enhance my knowledge and focus on the topics I am most passionate about, such as securities services. I am excited about what the future holds for my career at BCG. Not only do I get to work with some of the industry’s brightest and most capable professionals, but BCG empowers us all with a sense of purpose every day.
Raluca holds a bachelor’s degree in international business transactions and a master’s in international management, both in the German language, from Babeş-Bolyai University in Romania.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Work at BCG Data and Research Services is never boring. Every day I get to learn about something new, whether it is blockchain in asset servicing or the impact of robo-advisors on traditional wealth management. I get to deep dive on some subsectors that are of interest, while at the same time research larger topics as well. One definitely learns a lot about a subject in a short time frame here at BCG.
Q: How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?
A: I am working with a fantastic and energetic team whose members support each other. BCG has given me all the tools I need to seek out new opportunities and make my career my own. I love the fact that we are given the chance to shine and excel when we show interest in a subject.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the office?
A: I love to travel and to dance salsa, and sometimes I get to experience both at same time. I like to experience new cultures and try new interesting local foods. My last big adventure was with my husband. We spent two weeks in Japan and Seoul, and I fell in love with both cultures and countries. The food was amazing, and I got to meet up with a former colleague. The entire experience was just awesome.
Q: What international experiences have been the most interesting for you?
A: A year ago, I got to visit the London office and work alongside one of our knowledge experts in the capital markets sector. We decided how we want to take our collaboration into a subsector and what materials we should put in front of the partners. I learned a lot during that week and got to make new friends at same time.
Q: What are some of your volunteer or charitable work experiences?
A: I enrolled in the Big Brother Big Sister of Massachusetts Bay program almost a year ago and was matched with a wonderful, sparkly ten-year-old girl. Every time we meet, I get to be a kid again.
