Alexander Ulanov rejoined The Boston Consulting Group in 2006 and became a member of BCG's CIS region in 2008. Alex served as director of the BCG Kiev office from 2009 to 2014, building an entirely new team of more than 25 consultants . Since June 2015, Alex has led BCG’s Industrial Goods and Operations practices in Russia, and the Mining practice more broadly in Central Europe, Middle East and Africa.
During his time in Ukraine, Alex worked extensively in the metals and mining sectors and partnered with Kyiv City on developing a comprehensive 15-year strategy for all sectors of the local economy. Under Alex's leadership, BCG Kiev was the market leader, commanding the majority share of consulting work in Ukraine.
He is a global topic expert in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, and operational excellence, and he has worked extensively on industrial asset turnarounds.
Prior to working for BCG in Ukraine and Russia, Alex worked in BCG New York from 1999 to 2004 and from 2006 to 2008. He worked on various projects in the US, Latin America, and Europe until he left in 2003 to start, with his business partners, a private equity fund in Latin America focused on transportation and logistics.
