We are happy to introduce BCG Review Kazakhstan June 2017! This special edition is dedicated to the 10th Astana Economic Forum. This year the Astana Economic Forum is truly special, also because it takes place simultaneously with EXPO 2017 exhibition, which has been in preparation for many years. EXPO 2017 will show to the world that Kazakhstan is highly involved into solving key global issues, is continuing open development, and is ready to search for efficient solutions in various industries.

This BCG Review edition covers the topics relevant to both the local and the global agenda of Kazakhstan: digitalization, transport infrastructure development, banking evolution, search for a new energy balance, and localization.

The issue opens with an interview with Umut Shayakhmetova, Chairperson of the Management Board of Halyk Bank, in which she shared her views on the prospects for further development of the banking industry in Kazakhstan and discussed what makes her bank successful.

The topic of introduction of innovations and optimization of interaction with customers in the banking retail segment is disclosed in the article "How Digitized Customer Journeys Can Help Banks Win Hearts, Minds, and Profits", with a foreword by Max Hauser, BCG Partner and Managing Director.

The article "Kazakhstan Transport Infrastructure: Proactive Mode" analyzes the state of affairs in the development of this crucial element of the national economy and proposes a potential solution to close the gap.

Description of the best global localization practices and how to apply them to Kazakhstan can be found in the article “Kazakhstan: Localization Priorities”.

The issue closes with the article "Are Persistently Lower Oil Prices Good?", with a foreword by Irina Gaida, BCG Partner and Managing Director, covering the consequences of the changed price environment in the oil and gas sector, which can help to think through measures to mitigate the possible negative effects for both individual companies and entire economies.
