I studied management in college, and BCG turned all the theory I had learned into experience. Here, you learn to manage people, complex situations, and tight schedules in all kinds of industries. The strong sense of collaboration on BCG teams, and our culture of syndication with the client teams make working under these circumstances easy.

In a compact period of two years, I had the opportunity to work in the apparel, retail, banking, industrial goods, and aerospace sectors, and there is no way I could have learned this much about the Turkish business environment at another company. At the same time, you also get to work with inspiring leaders and talented peers from all over the world. In this way, BCG helps you gain different perspectives about business and life.

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: I like that it presents an opportunity to learn something new every day. It can be a new approach to dealing with a complex case from a partner, it can be some tricks on how to deal with the suppliers in a certain industry from a client, or it can be a fancy shortcut to make faster Excel models from a colleague. You somehow improve yourself every day.

Q: When did you know you belonged at BCG?

A: In my second-ever case at BCG, when the shareholder of the client asked about a specific detail that I was responsible for, our partners turned to me as if to say “Go ahead and explain.” Although I felt a sudden stress, I picked myself up and gave a detailed answer. That is when I felt I was part of the team.

Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?

A: A BCGer is collaborator, he/she is happy to share experiences, seek help from others, and team up with the clients. A BCGer is the kind of fun person you would want to spend Friday evening with even after a long week of working side by side.

Q: What was one of your favorite case experiences? (do not mention company by name)

A: In my most recent case, we had aimed to define a new way of buying for the client category department. It meant changing traditional ways of dealing with suppliers to more fact-based discussions around performance. We faced strong challenges in the beginning, but as we progressed and as results started to pour in, our client started internalizing our new process. This process was integral to how they did business by the time we left.

Q: How has your network grown as part of working at BCG?

A: Working at BCG exposes you to people from various levels and from different kinds of industries. Since we work very closely with our clients, we can develop strong relationships that last. I have been able to meet specialists in a broad range of topics: VPs of different departments, CEOs. Moreover, you get the chance to work with international teams. I have colleagues from around the world with whom I never lost touch.
