Lauren Is a Insightful Storyteller

Principal, Washington, DC

At BCG, Storytellers synthesize complex information and ideas. They believe in bringing the whole team together to get a broader perspective. Lauren finds clarity in a complex world.

What I care about most at BCG is continuing to learn and be challenged in my role and building relationships with my partners and teams.

In Lauren’s Words

I joined BCG in 2012 as an associate after completing an MS in commerce at the University of Virginia. In my time at BCG, I have primarily focused on retail work. What I like the most about retail is that the problems are very real and tangible. Everyone has had experiences shopping in a store, and our solutions need to be the right ones for the business and the consumers. I also enjoy that many cases involve an in-store element to test and evaluate solutions firsthand.

In addition to growing in my career, BCG has helped to create opportunities for me to achieve personal goals beyond the office. I played Division I Women's Golf while in college at UVA and decided that after school I wanted to continue to pursue amateur golf on a national level. This past year, I took a partial leave of absence from BCG to focus on competing in more golf tournaments. At the end of my summer LOA, I achieved a significant personal milestone by winning the 2015 USGA Women's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship held at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana. BCG's support and flexibility were invaluable in this success!

About Lauren

Lauren holds a BA in economics and mathematics and an MS in commerce from the University of Virginia.

How has BCG helped you grow and succeed?

BCG has pushed me to think beyond the first-order insights and question the status quo to get to real answers for our clients. This job has given me unique opportunities to team with senior clients at top companies and has increased my confidence level to bring a bigger voice to the room. I believe that I have grown more in the four years at this job as a thinker and influencer than I would have in ten years at another company.

What was one of your favorite case experiences?

I really enjoy working on retail cases because there are very tangible and impacts to the decisions we make. My favorite case experience involved a significant amount of time working in retail stores for our client. We redesigned a key workflow and managed a pilot in actual stores to see the solution in action. You can design a solution or workflow on paper or slides, but you learn more by watching actual associates interact with tools and complete the tasks. By doing this, I think we deliver a more robust and impactful solution for our clients.

What skills or talents do you hope to develop over the next few years?

Over the next few years, I am excited to transition from the associate and consultant role into a management role. I am looking forward to having the opportunity to develop as a manager and thought leader. With this comes a new set of challenges but also new opportunities to grow with the BCG network through practice areas and larger office roles.
