I chose to intern with BCG in Casablanca in order to start my career in Africa. The assignments, the clients, and the quality of the relationships with my colleagues persuaded me to remain for a while longer.
I was born in the US to a South African mother and a Moroccan father. After higher education studies in Switzerland, I felt like travelling and discovering new horizons. I have always been fascinated by Africa for its growth prospects and its "last frontier" dimension, and therefore joined the Casablanca office of BCG as an intern.
I quickly understood I had found the ideal location to work on the specific challenges and opportunities of the African continent. During this period, I was fortunate enough to participate in the development of a new strategy for a French group in Africa.
The Casablanca office is growing very quickly. Teams are international and tightly knit. There is a momentum and energy fueled by the diversity and interest of case assignments. Most countries focus on growth issues. I made quick progress within BCG thanks to the work environment and my colleagues' listening abilities.
Morgan studied political economy and finance at HEC and the Zurich University.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Working in a quickly developing region enables me to participate in many diverse and stimulating assignments, across a lot of industries (such as agriculture, cosmetics, and industrial goods). Every day I face intellectual challenges, and the high standards of BCG lead me to outdo myself. I learn a lot from, and achieve fulfillment within, young and dynamic teams.
Q: What did you learn in your first year on the job?
A: During my first months, I learned how to use a very rigorous analytical methodology, as well as manage my time and prioritize my tasks. In parallel, my knowledge of some industries and the business world in Africa has expanded a lot.
Q: What characteristics do you believe define a BCGer?
A: Positive energy, open-mindedness, a desire for learning and growth, and a willingness to challenge the status quo.
Q: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of the office?
A: I truly enjoy travels and outdoor activities such as surfing and running. The flexibility offered by BCG allows us to organize our time and pursue our hobbies and activities.
Q: What are some of your volunteer or charitable work experiences?What are some of your volunteer or charitable work experiences?
A: This type of experience matters a lot to me. Before joining BCG, I took part in the development of an entrepreneurship program in South Africa within the Amy Biehl Foundation and worked in offline tutoring within the Khan Academy platform. I know I can continue to engage in such activities at BCG, via the Social Impact practice area.
Q: What advice would you give to someone who wants to work at BCG?
A: Recruiting interviews at BCG must be planned well. You need to prepare for them carefully, notably with case studies. During the interview, you must show true motivation, an ability to learn, and feel free to discuss issues without any preconceived ideas.
