In his guest column for Forbes, BCG’s Grant Freeland talks about the importance of using data analytics in recruitment to help give firms an advantage over their competitors. To support this idea, he uses the example of the late NBA legend Arnold “Red” Auerbach who, according to Freeland, “not only had an uncanny ability to identify and develop talent, but to use players strategically to gain competitive advantage.” He adds that “today, scouts and coaches have the benefit of computers, spreadsheets, and data analysis to help gauge the likely success of prospective players.” Likewise, businesses can use analytics in recruiting to identify better hires and future leaders.
