BCG’s Xavier Mosquet has been enlisted to help French President Emmanuel Macron “steer a path for [the] country’s automotive industry,” according to an article by Automotive News. He will make several recommendations to ensure that France keeps up with countries like Germany in trends like electrification and autonomous driving. Mosquet was previously part of a BCG team that advised President Barack Obama on a bailout for US automakers. Mosquet says, “The auto industry, along with construction, is one of two industries that fuel long-term economic growth.” While there is no sense that France has fallen behind, Mosquet warns that there is a real possibility this could happen. He says, “If we look at, for instance, shared mobility and how digital applications have totally changed that, we do not see yet the role of France in that industry.”
