Mathias Bädeker is a core member of Boston Consulting Group’s Health Care practice and the practice's global Scientist Network. He is BCG’s knowledge-team manager for biopharma R&D and biopharma corporate-development topics.

Mathias joined BCG in 2005 and has worked extensively with clients on issues of R&D productivity, companion diagnostics strategy, and bioethics strategy.

Since 2010, Mathias has been a coauthor of the annual Medical Biotechnology in Germany report, a joint publication of the German Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies and BCG. He has also been a speaker at Deutsche Biotechnologietage, presenting on personalized medicine and the importance of biomarkers.

Mathias developed the R&D Productivity NME database, providing different metrics around R&D productivity. The results have been published in the 2014 Nature Reviews Drug Discovery article “R&D Productivity: On the Comeback Trail.”

Before joining BCG, Mathias was a project leader and head of laboratory for a biotech company focused on structural biology.
