Yoichiro Hirai initially joined The Boston Consulting Group in 2000—and rejoined the firm in 2012. Previously, Yoichiro was the president and CEO of Zappallas and the chief operating officer (COO) of Oricon. Both companies were listed and well-known digital service/entertainment companies in Japan, and at both, he led and launched numerous new buisinesses.
Yoichiro is a core member of BCG’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice and is focused mainly on digital content and e-commerce services. Yoichiro is also a partner of BCG Digital Ventures, and he leads its Tokyo Center, which he helped establish in April 2016.
Yoichiro’s project experience at BCG includes business building and launching new digital services for mobile telecommunications; establishing global alliances and marketing among Internet service operators in Europe; and developing buzz and viral marketing and a growth strategy to boost average revenue per user (ARPU).
Prior to joining BCG, Yoichiro has also held positions at Walt Disney International and Japan and at Mitsubishi Corporation.
