Recognizing the demands and sensitivity of humanitarian crises, BCG’s Charter for Humanitarian Response work applies the following principles to all Humanitarian Response work:

  1. We Prioritize Support for Our Longstanding Humanitarian Partners. These organizations have recognized expertise, longstanding mandates, and a track record of effective crisis response.
  2. We Focus on Where We Add Distinctive Value. We only engage in work aligned with BCG’s recognized expertise—such as strategy, organization, operations, and program design. We do not support projects on humanitarian program delivery on the frontline of active conflict zones.
  3. We Prepare Our Teams for the Demands of Humanitarian Work. All team members complete third-party training on humanitarian principles and receive tailored briefings on context and project guardrails. Teams are staffed to bring both functional depth and humanitarian experience.
  4. We Apply Heightened Process Discipline and Independent Oversight. Humanitarian projects follow enhanced approval protocols and elevated risk screening and are subject to oversight mechanisms independent of the delivery team to ensure accountability throughout execution.
  5. We Anchor All Work in Humanitarian Values. Every project begins with a clear assessment of how the Humanitarian Principles and other established frameworks apply in context—and proceeds only when we confirm that alignment.
