Álvaro Martínez de Bourio leads the Energy practice for Spanish-speaking South America (Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Argentina) at Boston Consulting Group. He has substantial experience working with national and international oil and gas companies as well as utilities on topics including transformation, digital, strategy, corporate development, and operations improvement. He has worked on engagements in Latin America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Alvaro also leads the Social Impact practice for BCG’s Bogotá office and has led projects with NGOs such as Yunus Social Business and WWF.

Álvaro joined BCG in 2008 and worked in the Middle East and Madrid offices before settling in Bogotá. He possesses deep knowledge of energy and natural resources industries from upstream to downstream, power, gas, and renewables. He has strong experience in project and people management, strategy, operations, operational turnarounds, and digital transformations, having led more than 150 projects in recent years.

Before joining the firm, Álvaro worked as Executive Control Manager for the real estate division of IBERDROLA, one of Europe's biggest utilities, taking part in several projects related to financial reporting, balanced scorecard, and budgeting. He also worked for three years as a consultant for Deloitte.
