BCG and Emirates Nature-WWF Host a Workshop for the UAE Alliance for Climate Action To Help Drive Organizational Climate Action

The second exclusive workshop for the UAE Alliance for Climate Action delved deeper into climate action resources, climate change management, and scope 3 emissions to facilitate organizations’ journey to net zero

Dubai—Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s leading management consulting firms, hosted a second workshop in a collaborative series with Emirates Nature-WWF as the knowledge partner. The objective of the program is to support member-organizations within the UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA) through a contextual approach to net zero, outlining sector-specific net zero scenarios and highlighting requirements for emission baseline assessment.

The second in the series of workshops held recently delved deeper into three key areas of climate action: an evaluation and overview of resources, scope 3 emissions, and change management. Many companies in the UAE find it challenging to account for and control scope 3 emissions, as they are not produced by the company itself but by others in their value chain. The workshop highlighted the importance of data-driven insights to help organizations reduce their overall carbon footprints.

Simon Birkebaek, Partner at BCG, said: "We are proud to partner with Emirates Nature WWF to support ambitious UACA organizations in accelerating their climate efforts. By leveraging our expertise on specific topics such as scope 3 and change management we can support members to achieve their climate goals. We’re excited to see how the UACA journey unfolds and to continue supporting the journey.”

BCG and Emirates Nature-WWF’s workshop also shed light on effective change management by helping companies identify and harness climate innovation, embed sustainability at scale into their business, and capture the value they create.

Participants in the workshop included Al Serkal, Aldar, American University of Sharjah, Apparel Group, Aramex, Bureau Veritas, Danone, Emirates Nature-WWF, HSBC, Johnson Controls, Pepsi, RAK Municipality, Serco ME, Sobha Realty and Talabat.

Marina Antonopoulou, Senior Director at Emirates Nature-WWF, said: “We believe that our success is tied to the success of the communities we serve, which is why we strive to make a positive impact through our work and actions. Our collaborative workshops for the UAE Alliance for Climate Action ensure that organizations can unlock the full potential of their workforce and create a sustainable competitive advantage in today's rapidly changing business landscape. By following a whole society approach and instilling collaboration across sectors we aim to collectively advance credible climate action in the UAE’’

BCG currently works with governments, businesses, non-profit organizations, and coalitions on a three-step Net-Zero Strategy to contribute to society and reduce challenges. To promote ambitious NDCs, climate-positive regulations, and a just energy transition, the company has long collaborated with local, regional, and international communities.

About UAE Alliance for Climate Action

Emirates Nature-WWF launched the first UAE-tailored alliance for climate action, named UAE Alliance for Climate Action (UACA). UACA is the first official global alliance in the region dedicated to driving ambitious climate action, increasing support for addressing the climate crisis, and engaging policymakers. The project’s vision is to create a multi-stakeholder alliance to increase momentum of near-and-long-term net zero targets that progress over time.

The ambition for this project to truly engage sub-national and non-state actors (SNSAs), defined as any entity operating at a sub-national level including academia, emirate-level entities, financial institutions, institutes, universities, corporates, associations, groups, civil-society and more. UACA will also contribute to the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative and is endorsed and supported by the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) and is the implementation arm of the Climate-Responsible pledge by equipping organizations to strengthen the implementation of their net zero targets.
