Yoichiro Hirai rejoined Boston Consulting Group in 2012, having previously worked at the firm from 2000. Prior to rejoining BCG, Yoichiro was the president and CEO of Zappallas and COO of Oricon, both major digital service/entertainment companies in Japan. Over the course of his career, Yoichiro has continued to be engaged in new business development, and has led launches of numerous new businesses leveraging digital technology.

Yoichiro has led BCG Digital Ventures (BCG DV) in Asia Pacific since 2021. He also leads the Tokyo Center of BCG DV, which he helped establish in April, 2016. Since then, Yoichiro has been involved in generating new business ideas and new business building including capital investment. He also serves as an outside director for companies which BCG DV invested in.

Yoichiro is a leader in the firm’s work on decarbonization through the use of digital technologies. He is also a core member of BCG’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications and Corporate Finance & Strategy practices, and has worked closely mainly with clients in media, entertainment, and telecommunications industries. His project experiences include alliance support, growth strategy formulation and implementation support, and new business building especially in digital areas.

Prior to joining BCG, Yoichiro worked at Walt Disney International and Japan and at Mitsubishi Corporation.
