Douglas Beal

As a core member of Boston Consulting Group's Financial Institutions practice, Douglas Beal leads the firm's work helping financial institutions build profitable businesses that generate positive socioeconomic and environmental impact, including through the responsible financing of resilience, security, and defense. His clients include global banks, asset managers and asset owners, wealth managers, private equity firms, and development finance institutions (DFIs).

Doug has extensive experience convening stakeholders across the public, private, and social sectors to develop scalable blended finance solutions that align different risk, return, and impact objectives. In particular, he works with family offices, private banks and their clients, and donor-advised funds to enable private capital participation in development finance. He is also currently focusing on enabling greater private-sector participation in resilience, security, and defense finance.

Doug is a co-creator of BCG’s Total Societal Impact (TSI) approach and the firm’s Sustainable Economic Development Assessment (SEDA), a statistical benchmarking tool used by governments and development organizations to improve wellbeing beyond GDP growth. TSI and SEDA have been featured in leading international publications including The Economist and the Financial Times.

Doug was previously the global leader of BCG’s economic development topic area, and advised the leaders of several countries on national development strategies. He also held regional leadership roles within BCG’s Financial Institutions practice across Asia Pacific and the Middle East. He serves on the advisory board of the Cornell Center for Global Sustainable Enterprise.
