Matt Stack

Matt Stack advises boards and CEOs on artificial intelligence and corporate and competitive strategy, helping leadership teams understand where AI creates durable advantage, where it erodes existing moats, and how to position before their competitors do. A senior advisor at Boston Consulting Group, Matt brings a practitioner's perspective to these questions. He has spent his career building AI, machine learning, and large-scale analytical systems inside some of the world's most competitive industries.

Matt's advisory work spans industries and continents. He has counseled insurance and reinsurance leaders on using alternative data to transform underwriting and pricing; advises governments and international organizations on the application of AI in the defense, aerospace, and cyber domains; and counsels family offices on technology investing.

Matt is also an investor. Having raised and managed venture, equity, and activist funds, he understands firsthand how sophisticated investors evaluate a company's strategy and where they look for opportunity and weakness. For boards, that perspective is increasingly valuable. As AI reshapes the competitive landscape, it is also reshaping the theses that activists and other investors bring to the table.

Matt started his career at BCG in the Boston and later New York offices. He has since been a Managing Director at ZLP Corp., Co-Founder of XLP Capital, Quantitative Strategist at Bain Capital Credit, Director of Computational Sciences for Mars Corporation, Advisor to Swiss Re Institute, and an early member of the BCG Institute, as well as Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Devonshire Capital, Activist Funds.
