Maurice Berns

Senior Partner & Managing Director


Maurice Berns joined The Boston Consulting Group in 2001. He is a core group member of the firm’s Energy practice and is the global leader of its oil and gas sector. He was previously the UK Energy practice group leader, and has been based in BCG's Kuala Lumpur, Paris, Mumbai, London, New York, and Houston offices.

Maurice has worked in the energy markets for more than 22 years, focusing on oil and gas markets, particularly downstream and trading. He has helped leading companies in the oil, gas, power, and renewables sectors, especially in strategy, operational efficiency, and organization.

At BCG, Maurice has led projects on refining and marketing portfolio; performance improvement in downstream and upstream operations; strategic reviews of country participation strategies; and assessment of individual downstream product businesses, such as aviation fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and marine and bunker fuels.

Before joining BCG, Maurice worked with an independent energy trader in Germany and spent several years with Wintershall in Argentina. He co-led Wintershall’s oil and gas marketing group and later worked in business development, including planning and commercial implementation of LPG and pipeline projects.
