Yoichiro Hirai initially joined The Boston Consulting Group in 2000—and rejoined the firm in 2012. When he was not working at BCG, Yoichiro was the president and CEO of Zappallas and COO of Oricon. Both major digital service/entertainment companies in Japan. Over the course of his career, Yoichiro has continued to be engaged in new business development, and has led launches of numerous new businesses leveraging digital technology.

Yoichiro leads the Tokyo Center of BCG Digital Ventures (BCGDV), which he helped establish in April 2016. He has been involved in generating new business ideas and new business building including capital investment at BCGDV.

Yoichiro is a core member of BCG’s Technology, Media & Telecommunications practice and Strategy practice. At BCG, he has worked closely mainly with clients in media, entertainment and telecommunications industries. His project experience includes alliance support, growth strategy formulation and implementation support, and new business building especially in digital.

Prior to joining BCG, Yoichiro has also held positions at Walt Disney International and  Japan and at Mitsubishi Corporation.
