Remembering François de Carbonnel’s Life

We’ll always remember François de Carbonnel, a managing director and partner—and founding member of BCG’s Chicago office.

May 27, 2020

On April 18th, the BCG community lost a remarkable mentor and friend, BCG alumnus François de Carbonnel (1972–1981, Chicago). François was an accomplished management consultant and held several board positions throughout his career. Click here for “François de Carbonnel in memoriam.”

While his time at BCG dates many years back, François remained an engaged alumnus and close to the firm for the rest of his life. Several BCGers over the years were fortunate to have known him for his unique contributions to BCG and the impact he has had on many individuals' careers. François is remembered especially for the critical role he played in setting the foundation for one of BCG’s strongest performing offices in Chicago.

Some of François’s former colleagues, now senior advisors, remained close to him and have been quick to share stories and anecdotes to celebrate his life. Sandy Moose, Larry Shulman, and Michael Silverstein are only a few of those who continue to keep his memory alive at BCG. It was his sincere passion for people, his personality, zest for life, and his abilities to influence great decisions that prompted his colleagues to call him “Le General,” a reference to General de Gaulle; all are testaments to François’s strong character and reputation.

As a partner and as a person, François truly represented the very best of BCG’s values, spirit, and community.

We BCGers honor his memory and acknowledge that while a very special man is gone from this world, his impact will never be forgotten.
