BCG Named a Leader in AI Consultancies in Independent Report

Boston Consulting Group Receives Recognition in AI Services from Analyst Firm in New Report on Providers of AI Digital Transformation Services

BOSTON—Boston Consulting Group (BCG) was named a Leader in a new report entitled The Forrester Wave™: AI Consultancies Q1 2021.

According to the report, released today, “BCG stands out for helping clients make difficult and large transitions.” In particular, Forrester recognizes BCG for its performance during the pandemic, stating, “When clients retrenched in 2020, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) didn’t. Instead, they leaned into and accelerated timelines and demand while leading clients to new and innovative states….BCG maintains tight collaboration and communication on engagements and is flexible and adept at moving beyond these hiccups to get the companies back on track for successful transitions and upskilling. Enterprises of any level of AI maturity can expect BCG to put them on the AI journey and get the value, differentiation, and competitive leap that an AI investment expects.”

Providers That Matter Most

The report provides an in-depth look at “the 13 providers that matter most.” In the report, independent research firm Forrester Research defines the AI consultancy market as, “… service provider firms that bring a holistic approach across people, process, technology, and data science to help enterprises transform with AI-driven systems and experiences for competitive advantage.”

Forrester evaluated 13 AI consultancies based on 26 criteria that were grouped as current offering, strategy, and market presence. BCG received the highest possible score in four out of five of the subcategories in the Strategy category. Participating vendors were deemed Challengers, Contenders, Strong Performers, or Leaders. BCG was placed in the Leaders category. BCG also received the top score possible (5.00) in the Delivery sub-criteria of Data Management, Engineering Talent, Design, Testing, Deployment, Delivery, and Operations, and Client Transformation; as well as in the AI Deployment criterion of the Market Presence category.

Deep Experience Means BCG Conquers Crisis

Calling out BCG’s “…backbone of past and ongoing cases,” the report cites the firm’s readiness “…to tackle hundreds of COVID engagements while continuing to advance AI capabilities and innovative solutions between AI and other emerging technologies,” going on to say, “Differentiation comes from a breadth of complex use cases and partnerships to co-develop and go to market with joint AI value propositions, IP, and patents. Clients praise BCG on getting the job done consistently and ensuring business impact (measured in billions) as key to working with BCG.” In questioning clients, Forrester also found that, “…in particular, clients talk about culture.”

"We are honored to be recognized by Forrester as a leader in AI consultancies," said Sylvain Duranton, BCG GAMMA global leader. "We believe the successful company must blend human and AI approaches with purpose and strategy at the core. Our bionic approach, which combines these critical elements, helps us deliver significant business impact for clients."

To be included in The Forrester Wave™: AI Consultancies Q1 2021, vendors must show that at least 20% of AI projects delivered in 2019 were fully released or in full production, that they completed at least 20 AI consulting engagements in 2019, that they have consistent engagement with C-level executives during AI consulting projects, that they have more than $10 million in AI consulting-specific revenue, and that they show relevance to Forrester’s client base.
