Climate change and global warming are widely recognized as the most pressing environmental concerns which can have a debilitating effect on global public health and human life. While the Paris Agreement of 2016 aims at strengthening the global response by limiting temperature rise, the current rates of CO2 emission and lack of any major structural change across regions indicates that emissions will continue to increase and surpass COP21 targets.

This paper, evaluates the various ‘vehicle-fuel’ options from a sustainability and economics perspective and presents a range of solutions across fuel types in the near and medium term. The paper also highlights the ‘call for action’ for public and private stakeholders to accelerate the path towards attainment of India’s climate change objectives from a vehicular emissions standpoint.
