Jan Philipp Bender is a core member of Boston Consulting Group’s Industrial Goods and Climate & Sustainability practices, primarily advising companies in materials and process industries. He leads BCG's global work in material and process industries, and leads BCG’s Climate & Sustainability practice in the EMESA (Europe, Middle East, South America & Africa) region.

Since joining BCG in 2009, Jan has worked with a wide range of materials and process industry clients to address key issues related to strategy, with a particular focus on climate and sustainability, innovation, and commercial excellence. He has helped numerous companies identify new (sustainable) business models, reengineer business processes using state-of-the-art technologies, and reconfigure their portfolios for the future. He has worked extensively on a variety of climate sustainability topics, including clean energy for industrial sites, circular economy (with a focus on metals and urban recycling), socio-economic development, traceability, and sustainable business model innovation.

Jan’s industry focus has been on mining, metals, and chemicals. He also has expertise working with major companies in the consumer goods industry, as well as with social impact organizations. Before joining BCG, Jan was a teaching and research assistant at the University of Munich.
