5G is expected to alter the connectivity landscape with new technological innovations. To unleash this generational change in connectivity and to drive adoption in ASEAN will however require coordinated efforts from the regulatory authorities, operators and enterprises.

In the last 12 to 18 months, SEA countries have taken very different approaches and timelines for 5G deployments – with some looking at innovating frameworks. Emerging SEA countries like Indonesia and Thailand, on the other hand, are resorting to traditional spectrum auctions.
