In his coauthored guest column in the Hindustan Times, BCG’s Arindam Bhattacharya writes that traditional, “physical” supply chains do not possess all the capabilities to solve customer needs. He asserts that the post-COVID world presents a major opportunity for India to build a competitive position in new global digital value chains. However, policies involving infrastructure, regulatory costs, and innovation capability will not suffice. Bhattacharya explains that governments should instead pursue digital solutions to better serve the needs of their people in the 21st century. He believes the best areas of focus for India lie in building “an equally competitive data and digital infrastructure, AI/machine learning (ML) capabilities, with supportive policies on data-sharing and privacy.”
