BOSTON—Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s leading management consulting firms, has named David Webb the firm’s Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO).
In September 2020, BCG became one of the first management consulting firms to announce a commitment to achieve net-zero climate impact by 2030. Since making the net-zero announcement in 2020, BCG set new Science-Based Targets which aim to halve the emissions intensity of the firm by 2025, and became the only management consulting firm to be featured on the CDP Climate A List.
With over 20 years’ experience at BCG leading large-scale client transformation programs, Webb will assume responsibility for the firm’s internal transformation as it works to achieve its net-zero commitment. In addition to leading the decarbonization of BCG’s direct operations, Webb will oversee the firm’s partnerships with leading organizations on breakthrough climate technologies such as sustainable aviation fuel and direct air capture. He will also work closely with BCG’s Climate & Sustainability practice on scaling the firm’s impact with clients.
Webb also serves as Managing Director of North American Systems and previously led BCG’s Transformation Practice in North America. Based in Philadelphia, Webb brings a global mindset to his new role, having previously lived in the Netherlands, Hungary, and Italy, and served clients across the US, Europe, and Asia.
“Climate change is the defining challenge of our time and a top priority for BCG. As we support our clients on their climate and sustainability commitments, it is imperative that we lead by example. David’s expertise leading large-scale client transformations combined with his deep knowledge of BCG’s day-to-day operations and culture will help us deliver on this crucial agenda,” said Christoph Schweizer, BCG’s CEO.
On his new role as CSO, Webb said, “I’m excited to build on BCG’s strong foundation and many achievements to date. We are at a crucial moment for the planet and a defining moment for our business. To achieve our net-zero target, we must draw from the lessons learned during the global pandemic to accelerate the adoption of hybrid working models and define new norms to reduce our largest emissions source—business travel. At the same time, we must help advance breakthrough climate technologies such as sustainable aviation fuels and direct air capture. In doing so, we will also partner closely with our clients’ efforts in their own climate objectives.”
In this role, Webb will work closely with and report to BCG’s CEO, Christoph Schweizer, and will join BCG’s Global Operating Committee.
