We often talk about Malaysia’s national aspirations – GDP, growth, progress. But what about the dreams of everyday Malaysians?
To find out, we surveyed 1,500 Malaysians across the country, complementing the quantitative data with in-depth ethnographic research. Together, these insights reveal not just what Malaysians dream of, but how close (or far) they feel from making those dreams real.
By examining the relationship between Malaysians’ top dreams and their demographic characteristics, four archetypes emerged: Providers, Harmony Seekers, Go-getters, and Legacy Makers. Each reflects how people at different life stages define progress and navigate trade-offs, providing insights that can help policymakers and employers design solutions that better reflect the diverse realities of Malaysians’ lives, creating impact that is inclusive and supports success rooted in security.
