Climate Change: Corporate Protagonism Benefiting Business and Society June 14, 2021 Arthur Ramos Jorge Hargrave This article is the first part of a series dedicated to corporate leadership during the movement of reaction against the climate crisis in Brazil. In this first article of the series, we present an overview of the global climate crisis and Brazil's position in this context. We also discuss potential impacts on companies' strategies, which are increasingly being led to commit to reducing and offsetting their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The demand for confronting climate change is wide, coming from consumers, investors, employees, regulators and activists. Finally, we assess the case of the Danish company Ørsted, who anticipated the energy transition movement and, in 10 years, went from one of the most intense companies in terms of gas emissions in Europe, to the most sustainable energy company in the world, whose reinvention had a strong impact on its results and valorization.
