Darwin Smith is a core member of Boston Consulting Group’s Energy practice and a topic expert in unconventional oil and gas. He has been instrumental in launching BCG’s Calgary office and for building the firm’s presence in Western Canada. Darwin is also a core member of BCG’s Centre for Canada’s Future. In that role, he helps move Canada forward by providing insight and expertise on the country’s most important issues. The centre also aims to convene leaders from the business, government, and nonprofit sectors to work together to achieve impact.

Since joining BCG in 2007, Darwin has worked with clients throughout the energy sector, including utilities, engineering firms, retailers, and oil and gas companies. He has helped these clients address key issues related to corporate development, strategy, and transformative change.

His recent project experience includes helping launch a new energy retailing company, supporting the postmerger integration of two global oil and gas companies, supporting utility regulator negotiations, and conducting strategic due diligence projects covering potential acquisitions in upstream oil and gas.

Darwin also has acquired extensive experience in the industrial goods sector, ranging from portfolio and growth strategy work through to transformation program management.

Prior to joining BCG, Darwin worked in the upstream oil and gas industry for Nexen in Yemen, Canada, and the United Kingdom. He is a professional engineer in Alberta.
