Mikko Tynkkynen is the Helsinki lead for BCG TURN, Boston Consulting Group’s corporate transformation and turnaround unit. Mikko leads large-scale change engagements covering strategic questions, and program design and execution, to deliver the results in close cooperation with client teams. He has worked with clients on ambitious cost-out programs, post-merger integrations, and holistic business transformations.
Mikko is also a lead member of BCG's Industrial Goods and Operations practices. He has in-depth experience working with machinery and engineered products companies and operations improvement. Prior to joining BCG in 2010, Mikko developed an equity research platform for a startup.
Companies from all Nordic countries have outperformed global peers during the crisis brought on by the pandemic, but not equally. Our analysis reveals that Finnish companies systematically underperform their Nordic peers in all industries except energy.
In this article, we assess the efficacy of these approaches, relying upon an in-depth analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Total Shareholder Returns (TSR). We identify global industry patterns and evaluate how Nordic companies perform compared to their industry peers and share five steps that are necessary for companies to come out stronger.
