BCG at COP30

Brazil will convene global leaders for COP30 in Belém, “the gateway to the Amazon,” in November to continue accelerating the energy transition, adapting to climate change, and protecting nature.

Brazil will host the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, known as COP30, bringing together public and private sector leaders to drive action and deliver climate progress. Belém will be home to this climate conference from November 10 through November 21 under the leadership of President Lula and Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, COP President-Designate. The COP30 presidency’s priority agenda emphasizes multilateralism, accelerating the implementation of negotiated outcomes, ensuring a just transition, and positioning the Amazon—and broader nature and biodiversity protection—at the heart of global climate efforts.

Every COP represents a critical moment in international progress and cooperation—an opportunity to align and forge collective action around a shared purpose. COP28, for instance, delivered a global consensus on a sustainable path forward, and COP29 yielded an agreement on the financing required. The imperative for COP30 is setting a pathway to scaling finance and raising national ambitions.

In past years, BCG’s delegation convened clients across industries to explore green growth, reducing climate risks, and accelerating decarbonization. Our engagements at COP29 reinforced that while much work remains, public and private sector organizations play a pivotal role in aligning net zero goals with value creation to drive impactful progress.

Host Spotlight: Brazil

Known as the gateway to the Amazon, Belém, in the Brazilian state of Pará, was chosen to host COP30 to help spotlight the importance of forests, nature, biodiversity, and the rights and contributions of Indigenous peoples. Brazil is home to one of the world’s most vital biospheres and holds significant potential for climate regulation. The country also holds significant potential for green economic growth—driven by its low-carbon resources, its position as one of the world’s leading food producers, and its high potential to scale nature-based solutions. As Brazil prepares to welcome global stakeholders, its social diversity underscores the need for inclusive dialogue and equitable climate solutions.
