October 21, 2025 | New at BCG
BOSTON—Boston Consulting Group (BCG), one of the world’s leading management consulting firms, has appointed Amyn Merchant as Chief Risk Officer (CRO).
Merchant brings more than 30 years of experience at BCG, having lived and worked around the world. He has led relationships with some of the firm’s largest global clients and holds senior leadership roles including Chair of BCG’s Audit & Risk Committee since 2020, interim Co-Chief Risk Officer, and Chief Alumni Officer. He also chairs the firm’s Senior Leadership Development Program and previously led BCG’s activities in the Northeast United States and its New York office.
“Amyn brings the experience, leadership, and proven judgment this role demands, along with a deep understanding of the Risk function and its growing importance in today’s complex environment,” said Christoph Schweizer, BCG’s CEO. “His global perspective and commitment to responsible leadership will be instrumental as we continue to evolve BCG’s processes and safeguards in step with the scale and breadth of our global operations.”
As CRO, Merchant will lead BCG’s global Risk function, overseeing Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, Assurance & Advisory, Information Security Risk Management, Data Protection, Global Security, and Risk Strategy & Operations.
BCG’s Commitment to Reinforcing Processes and Controls
Merchant will also oversee the implementation of recommendations from BCG’s firmwide effort to reinforce its processes, controls, and culture. This effort was launched following the independent investigation into BCG’s past work related to Gaza. The investigation concluded that this work was the result of individual misconduct, enabled by unwarranted process exceptions, gaps in oversight, and misplaced trust. While it confirmed that BCG’s core processes and culture remain strong, it also identified areas that can be further reinforced.
The global team supporting this ongoing effort, which includes experts from BCG’s Risk & Compliance Practice, has already introduced and is implementing several key actions:
- Reinforced Social Impact approval processes, with revised client evaluation criteria, enhanced safeguards, and global representation in approval reviews
- Formalized a BCG Charter for Humanitarian Work, developed with input from long-standing NGO partners, codifying where and how BCG operates in humanitarian contexts
- Reinforcing business acceptance controls across all client work and ensuring consistent application of firmwide processes
- Improving visibility and access to independent and confidential Speak-Up channels for all BCGers
“Robust risk management and a strong speak-up culture are more critical than ever,” said Merchant. “I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to building on the work already underway to reinforce our processes, support sound decision-making, and uphold BCG’s high standards around the world.”
