GenAI promises to improve efficiency and effectiveness. But companies can’t expect employees to earnestly adopt tools they fear will lead to employers capturing all the benefits. To succeed in integrating GenAI into workflows, BCG’s Deborah Lovich, Rosie Sargeant, and Jacob Smith contend that organizations must determine how GenAI can improve employees’ enjoyment of work. And for help, companies should look to their managers.
The authors’ research finds that managers with high team adoption rates of GenAI spend time experimenting with and using the technology, and they believe in the power of GenAI to make work better. These managers also work with their teams to create, adapt, and integrate GenAI tools that work for them to enhance joy and minimize toil. Companies looking to drive the adoption of GenAI should note the contributions that managers can make.
