Tycho Möncks is a core member of Boston Consulting Group’s Industrial Goods practice, primarily focused on metals and mining. Since joining BCG in 2007, Tycho has supported mining clients globally across a broad range of functional topics including strategy, operations, and organization. He leads BCG's work in commodity market insights and mining operations and leads the firm’s mining practice in Africa. He also works with BCG’s large-scale change initiative.
As an expert in operational excellence in Africa's mining operations, Tycho has many years of on-site, hands-on experience. He brings deep insights into safety functions, especially in Africa. He has worked with clients, and written about, opportunities derived from commodity strategy (including ‘battery metals’ such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel).
In addition to chemicals and mining companies, Tycho has worked with mining upstream players as well as institutional and private equity investors.
In this publication we look into the South African case to examine how COVID-19 disruptions have affected the mining industry and propose some interventions to return the South African mining industry to competitiveness and growth.
Mining executives can build an uncertainty advantage around climate-change risk by focusing on three strategic priorities.
