The Public-Private Convergence of AI at Scale

Date: Saturday, March 14
Time: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a networking reception immediately following
The Contemporary Austin–Jones Center Moody Rooftop

AI is triggering shifts in the value pools of entire industries and redefining what it takes for companies to achieve competitive advantage. Yet, even as many companies have begun applying AI solutions with impressive results, few have developed full-scale AI capabilities that are systemic and companywide. As AI has revolutionized the economy, it also raises key questions for governments of how to harness its capabilities while protecting individual privacy, avoiding bias, and promoting economic and social inclusion. Join us for a rooftop chat to discuss the opportunities and challenges with implementing AI at scale with an eye toward public sector, corporate, and social considerations.

Since the dawn of civilization, humans have used technology to transcend the limits of the human body. From the development of the wheel to the breakthroughs of modern medicine, we have continually strived to make up for what Shakespeare termed “the thousand natural shocks/That flesh is heir to.” Today, a proliferation of new technologies—from smart prostheses and bio-hybrid robots, to nootropics and smart drugs, to CRISPR, gene drives, and synthetic biology—all promise not merely to restore physical health or mental capability but to radically enhance it. Join us for a panel discussion that explores these break through technologies, their impact on human functioning, longevity and health and any potential ethical considerations.
