The 4th edition of the Argos x Boston Consulting Group (BCG) Climate Transition Barometer reveals that decarbonisation is becoming a tangible source of competitive advantage for European mid-sized companies.

Conducted among 750 mid-sized companies across five regions of Europe — France, Germany, Italy, Benelux and the United Kingdom — the barometer highlights that 56% of respondents now observe a competitive advantage through decarbonisation, a figure that has tripled since 2023. Companies combining structured investment with a formal climate strategy capture the strongest competitive advantage, with 66% reporting tangible benefits versus 44% for those with no dedicated investment or roadmap.

Despite four years of geopolitical turbulence, 88% still consider reducing GHG emissions an important or critical priority, and 85% intend to maintain or accelerate their transition efforts. Yet financial constraints remain the main barrier to taking action, cited by 58% of respondents — and only 8% have deployed structured preventive adaptation measures despite 63% having experienced a climate event in the last three years.
