India’s consumer durables industry is entering its next phase of growth. India is projected to be one of the world’s fastest-growing consumer durables markets through 2030, growing at 8-10% annually to reach INR 300-325K Cr. This growth is underpinned by significant headroom in household penetration, rising incomes & easier financing, with premiumization and replacement demand providing further momentum.

The bigger opportunity, however, is not just to serve a growing domestic market, but to create more of that value in India and build the scale to compete globally. Market growth could unlock substantial incremental opportunity for domestic value addition as India continues to rely on imports for several critical components. At the same time, India accounts for <1% of global consumer durables trade, highlighting the significant headroom to build a stronger export presence.

Developed jointly by CII and BCG and launched at the Consumer Electronics & Durables Summit 2026, the report highlights five priorities for the next phase: build the ecosystem for domestic component manufacturing and beyond; improve export competitiveness in priority markets; strengthen R&D and product innovation capabilities; create a long-term regulatory roadmap aligned to domestic & export markets; and reshape high-impact functions with Agentic AI and GenAI.

Together, these moves can help India move beyond import substitution and emerge as a globally competitive manufacturing and innovation base - truly Home Grown, World Ready.
